CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Helen Virginia Smith, 26 Oct 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Helen V. Smith Helen Virginia Smith, 79, Hermitage Health Center, Elizabethton, formerly of Rittertown Community, Hampton, died Sunday, October 26, 2003 at the center. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Will Simerly who died in 1979 and Mary Ann Peters Simerly who died in 2003. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Smith was a member of Rittertown Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Brownlow Smith, in 1993; by a son, Mike "Springer" Smith, in 1998, and by three brothers, James, Joe and Bobby Simerly. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Glen Potter, Elizabethton, and Margaret and Mack Hicks, Hampton; two sons, James Richard Smith, Hampton, and Daniel Boyd, Chesapeake, Va.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Wilma and Bob Hill and Elsie and Vaughn Fritts, all of Hampton; six grandchildren, Danny Boyd Smith, Patrick Smith, Brian Hicks, Jamie Hicks Lewis, Glenna Potter Painter and Courtney Michael Smith; five great grandchildren, Lucus Smith Teague, Haley Smith, Bryson Keith Hicks, John Thomas "J.T." Painter and Lily Brooke Painter. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2003 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Haynes and Rev. Bruce Hendrich officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2003 in the Rittertown Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday will be John Painter, Andy Lewis, Danny Teague, Jeff Greene, Jay Louie Greene, Anthony Troutman, Charles Cutlip, Keith Tolley, James Fritts and Greg Shrevee. Honorary pallbearers will be Vaughn Fritts, Bob Hill, Frank Greene, Guy Troutman, Clarence Willis, Wayne McClellan, Dick Emmert, Bobby Joe Taylor, Connie Roberts, Dr. Arnold Hopland, Dr. Jeff Hopland and the staff of Hermitage Health Center. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Glen Potter, 604 S.
