CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Edith Raburn Smith, 6 Jul 2005 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Edith Raburn Smith, 87, died Wednesday morning, July 6, 2005, at Pine Ridge Care Center, where she had been a resident for eight years. Ms. Smith was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Edward Jacob and Earle Lou Teague Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Crawford Alexander Smith Sr., and a sister and brother- in-law, Mamie and Worley Pierce. Ms. Smith was a member of Caldwell Springs Baptist Church and a graduate of Hampton High School Class of 1939. She was an employee of Beaunit Fibers, North American Rayon until 1945, then worked for Bemberg. She worked as a Teacher's Aide at Unaka High School and as a Teacher's Aide in the Kindergarten program at Unaka Elementary and Hunter Elementary. She also worked in the community for years selling Avon products. Survivors include a son, Charles Randolph Smith, of the home; a grandson, Charles Edward Smith, San Diego, Calif.; an uncle, Conley Smith; and a sister- in-law, Marilyn Smith. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Ms. Smith will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, July 8, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. William Duncan and Rev. Clate Briggs officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, in the Caldwell Springs Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral chapel at 10:20 a.m. Saturday, will be Larry Bowling, Robert Pierce, Brian Smith, Harry Page, Lee Long, Chris Long, Dallas Pierce, Kevin Bowling and John Pierce. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, prior to the funeral service.
