CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Myrtle Julia Smith Stewart, 24 Mar 2004 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Myrtle Julia Smith Stewart, of Roanoke, Va., formerly of Lee Avenue, Elizabethton, Tenn., gained a new life on March 24, 2004. Mrs. Stewart was a native of Yancey County, N.C., and the daughter of the late Charles Monroe Smith and Allie Robinson Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Glen Stewart, April 1, 1982. Also preceding her in death were her brother, Samuel M. Smith, and two sisters, Janette S. Hall and Flora Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart were the parents of one daughter, Sondra Lynn Stewart Slemp, and son-in-law, Andrew Alfred Slemp Jr., of Roanoke, Va. Her pride and joy were her three grandchildren, Andrew Alfred Slemp III (Drew), and his wife Cheyrl, of Talbott, Tenn., Stewart James Robert Slemp (Rob), and his wife Wendy, of Roanoke, Va., and Julia Elizabeth Slemp Larro (Julie), and her husband Michael, of Midlothian, Va. Seven great-grandchildren survive her: Erica Bailey Slemp, Jarrett Michael Morie and Elliott Russell Morie, all of Talbott, Tenn., Andrew John Bradley Slemp and Anna Reese Slemp of Roanoke, Va., Elisabeth Page Larro and Mitchell Andrew Robert Larro of Midlothian, Va. She is also survived by a brother, William Smith, of Newport News, Va., as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Stewart was a member of First Christian Church of Elizabethton, Tenn., and the Winsome Sunday School Class. The graveside service will be conducted at 12 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Dr. Jeffery W. Scott officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 27, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Tetrick Funeral Home. The family will be leaving in procession to the cemetery at 11:30 a.m. The family wishes to express their gratitude to her faithful friends at First Christian Church in Elizabethton, Tenn., to the staff of Ridgewood Gardens Assisted Living in Salem, Va., and to the Pheasant Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Roanoke, Va., for their loving care of their mother and grandmother.
