CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Carter W. Street, 14 Oct 2003 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Carter W. Street Carter W. Street, age 93, Cove Creek Road, Roan Mountain, died Tuesday, October 14, 2003, at James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Medical Center, Mountain Home, following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Steven and Emma Freeman Street. He was a member of Cove Creek Presbyterian Church. Mr. Street was a retired employee of Bemberg Corporation. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Hughes Street, October 27, 1997; three sons, Robert, Ray and Jack Street; three brothers, Floyd, Jim and Warren Street, and one sister Frances Hughes. Survivors include three sons, Paul Street, of Drexel, N.C., and Tommy Street and Conley Street, both of Roan Mountain; two daughters, Mary Harrison, Roan Mountain, and Barbara Smith, Connelly Springs, N.C.; one sister, Etta Julian, of Norfolk, Va.; one brother, Darel Street, Roan Mountain; 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Carter Street will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2003, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, with the Rev. Randy English and the Rev. Frank Jones officiating. Music will be under the direction of Southside Trio. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 16, 2003, at Hughes Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Street, Rocky Hughes, Darren Higgins, Lester Odom, Randy Hughes and Wade Odom. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors, doctors and nursing staff of James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Medical Center Hospital, and nursing staff of Roan Highlands Nursing Home. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home chapel at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 15, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, or friends may call at the residence, 397 Cove Creek Road, Roan Mountain, any time.
