Stevens 12/15/99 Howard B. Stevens, 82, 184 Brown's Branch Road, Hampton, died unexpectedly Monday, December 13, 1999, at his residence. Mr. Stevens was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Charlie and Julia Davis Stevens. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Smith Stevens, to whom he was married for 47 years, March 24, 1982, an infant son, four brothers, two sisters, four half-brothers and two half-sisters. Mr. Stevens was a member of Oak Hill Free Will Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation, having worked there 38 years. Survivors include two daughters, Juanita Stevens Miller, Hampton, and Elwanda Stevens, Wanaque, N.J.; two granddaughters, Stephanie Miles Didomenico, Passaic, N.J., and Karin Miles, Kearny, N.J.; two half-brothers, Stanley Stevens, Hampton, and Lawrence Stevens, Elizabethton; and a half-sister, Gladys Simerly, Roan Mountain. Stevens, 82, 184 Brown's Branch Road, Hampton, who died Monday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with Rev. Rondal Stevens and Rev. L.D. Berry officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Chariot Trio. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Stevens Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Conley Stevens Jr., Bruce Stevens, Brian Stevens, Doyle Coleman, Larry Coleman and Ford Townsend. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Campbell, Charles Roe, William H. Clark, Sam LaPorte, Frank Bowers and Mack Tolley. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence, 184 Brown's Branch Road, Hampton, any time.
