Stevens Stanley E. Stevens, 70, 239 Browns Branch Road, Hampton, died Monday, March 11, 2002, at Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Stevens was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Charlie and Delia Townsend Stevens. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl Stevens, in 1982, and a granddaughter, Audra Ellen, in 1980. Mr. Stevens was a member of Oak Hill Free Will Baptist Church and a retired wood worker. Survivors include his wife, Finnett Bennett Stevens, of the home; three sons and their wives, Kenneth and Vanessa Stevens, Greenbriar Drive, Hampton, David and Sherry Stevens, of the home, and Terry and Regina Stevens, Browns Branch Road, Hampton; four special grandchildren, Corey Malynn, Brandon Wayne, Kevin Wayne and Joshua Austin; two stepdaughters, Aletha and Aretha Webb, their children, Jonathan, Amanda, Summer, John Curtis, Melissa, Amber, Travis and Andy Stout. Mr. Stevens was from a large family of 15 brothers and sisters of which only two are still surviving, a brother, Lawrence Stevens of Stoney Creek, and a sister, Gladys Simerly of Tiger Creek. Stevens, 70, 239 Browns Branch Road, Hampton, who died Monday, March 11, 2002, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, at Oak Hill Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Whitehead and the Rev. Terry Jones officiating. Music will be under the direction of Patti Whitson, Jeff Odom and Kenneth Stevens. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 14, at Oak Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, Hampton. Active pallbearers will be David Tolly, Dudley Ingram, Larry Coleman, Arnold Hughes, Frank Bowers, Verl Julian, Harry Crowe and Holland Morelock. Everyone will meet at the church at 9:30 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery for the graveside service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill Free Will Baptist Church. Friends may also call at the residence, 239 Browns Branch Road, Hampton, at any time.
