CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Rev. Basil Stevens, Sr., 19 May 2003 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Rev. Basil Stevens Rev. Basil Stevens, Sr., 73, 834 Simerly Creek Road, Hampton, died Monday, May 19, 2003 in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Jake and Celia Morton Stevens. He was a retired truck driver with Summers-Taylor, Inc. Rev. Stevens had been an ordained minister for 35 years. He had pastored the following churches: Sally Cove Creek Community Church, Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church, St. John Free Will Baptist Church, Green Mountain Free Will Baptist Church, and Cox Creek, Alleghency, Fairview Free Will Baptist Church and Simerly Creek Holiness Church. Rev. Stevens was a member of the Sally Cove Creek Community Church. He had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by two sons, Terry Lynn Stevens and Basil Stevens, Jr. Survivors include his wife, Betty Deloach Stevens; one daughter-in-law, Debbie Honeycutt Stevens, of Roan Mountain; one granddaughter, Sabrina Stevens, of Roan Mountain; two grandsons and one granddaughter-in-law, Shawn Lee and Beverly Stevens, Hampton, and Irick Stevens, of Roan Mtn.; two great granddaughters, Haley Leann Stevens, of Roan Mtn., and Samantha Nicole Stevens, Hampton; one great grandson, Thomas Lee Connor Stevens, of Hampton; one sister, Blanche Glover, Elizabethton; three brothers, Bailey Stevens, Bobby Stevens, and Benny Stevens, all of Hampton; one aunt, Tina Humphrey, Elizabethton, and several nieces and nephews. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. STEVENS -- Funeral services for Rev. Basil Stevens, Sr., 73, 834 Simerly Creek Road, Hampton, who died Monday, May 19, 2003, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2003 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gene Osborne and Rev. Robert Crusenberry officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 2003 in the Simerly-Collins Cemetery. The Sally Cove Creek Group will provide the music. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Thursday will be Luther Morton, Lewis Whitehead, Steve Murray, Sammy Humphrey, Richard Carver, David Whitehead, Harold Street, and Matthew Collins. Honorary pallbearers will be Arnold Hughes, Edd Whitehead, Fate Whitehead, Richard Street, Steve Rainbolt, Dale Stevens, Rondal Street and all of his brother preachers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of Luther and Ruby Morton, 121 Greendale Court, Elizabethton.
