Sutphin 07/29/99 Helen Kate Sutphin, 70, 158 Carl Taylor Road, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Elma Egli Hall. She was preceded in death by her husband, William John "Bill" Sutphin, April 1, 1994, a son, Jonathan Eugene Sutphin, June 14, 1998, and a brother, Ray Hall. Mrs. Sutphin was a 1947 graduate of Unaka High School. She was a homemaker and a member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church, where she served as a nursery worker. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law: Teresa and Jerry rindstaff, Elizabethton; and Tina Ericson, Atlanta, Ga.; one son and daughter- in-law, Samuel William and Linda Sutphin, Jonesborough; one sister and brother- in-law, Betty and Richard Grindstaff, Elizabethton; four grandchildren: Stephanie Iris Marie Goodson, Johnson City; Elizabeth Marie and William Keith Ericson, both of Atlanta, Ga; and James William Richard Grindstaff, Elizabethton; four step-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews and two aunts. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. SUTPHIN -- Funeral services for Helen Kate Sutphin, 70, 158 Carl Taylor Road, Elizabethton, who died Tuesday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 1999, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Estep and the Rev. H. Brooks Peters officiating. Music will be under the direction of Gene Church. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 30, 1999, in the Ritchie Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Bill Jones, Andy Hall, Norman Peters, Gene Ritchie, Gebe Ritchie and Elwayne Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Virgie Taylor, Zola Shankle, Edna D'Andelet, Edith Elizondo, Ned and Betty Greer, Ruby Hicks, Judy Wiseman, Christina Collins, Hazel Bergmann, Mamie Tipton, Shirley Sheffield, Shirley Anderson, Katie Taylor and Ann Rock. Everyone will meet at the funeral home chapel at 9 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 1999, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Stoney Creek Baptist Church, 1843 Highway 91, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
