CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Herman Paul Sutphin, 28 Nov 2002 ----¤¤¤---- Herman P. Sutphin Herman Paul Sutphin, 82, 120 Manning St., Elizabethton, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, in the James H. Quillen Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late John Cleveland and Elizabeth C. Grindstaff Sutphin. Mr. Sutphin was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II. He was a charter member of the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post No. 2166 and the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 360. He was the retired owner and operator of the Sonoma Office Supply of Sonoma, CA and was of the Protestant faith. Mr. Sutphin was preceded in death by his first wife, Mae Sutphin in 1950 and by three brothers. Survivors include his wife, Velma Yount Sutphin of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bill and Jerrie Sutphin of Winnsboro, TX and John Sutphin of Lexington, Tn.; and one sister, Hazel Bergman, Elizabethton; also survive. Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. SUTPHIN - Graveside services and interment for Herman Paul Sutphin, 82, 120 Manning St., Elizabethton, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002 in the Grindstaff Cemetery (Siam Community) with the VA Chaplain, Rev. Carlton Fuller officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Patton Crosswhite VFW Post No. 6975 of Bristol, TN. Active pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends at the Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday.
