CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Raymond E. "Bluebird" Sutphin, 22 Jun 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Raymond E. "Bluebird" Sutphin, 71, Johnson City, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Charles Raymond and Mamie Ellen Wilson Sutphin. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was the owner and operator of Sutphin's Auto Repair for over 20 years. Mr. Sutphin attended Keystone Free Will Baptist Church. He was a life member of the John Sevier VFW Post #2108, Johnson City. Survivors include his wife, Shirley C. Sutphin of Johnson City; a sister and her husband, Betty and Wayne Edwards of Johnson City; four brothers and their wives, Carl Bob and Joanne Sutphin of Johnson City; Jim Sutphin, of Gray; Richard and Brenda Sutphin, and Steve Sutphin, all of Johnson City; his mother and father-in-law, Edna and Roy Cooper, of Johnson City; a sister-in-law and her husband, Jane Ann and Terry Williams, and a brother-in-law and his wife, Jim and Donna Cooper, all of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Also, his special friends, Carolyn Bowman and Peggy Lowe and special pets, Sally and Blue also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a special daughter, Robin; a sister, Helen Sutphin Guinn, and a brother, George "Bill" Sutphin. The funeral service for Raymond E. "Bluebird" Sutphin will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 2004 in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City, with Rev. Bill Greer and Rev. Mack Houston, and Rev. Roy Cooper officiating. Music will be provided by Brenda DeLoach and The Keystone Trio. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. prior tothe funeral service in the chapel. The committal service and burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2004 at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Ken Maxel, Randy Lyons, Herb Peterson, Dale Moore, Rocky Collins, Harold Edwards, Mark Smith, and Steve Fields. Honorary pallbearers will be Lloyd Wiseman, Doug White, Hugh Berry, Harold Merman, Jim Ward, Bud McKee, Harold Babb, Floyd Royston, Dana Reed, Jim Yelton, Jerry Toney, Ronnie Messimer, Rev. Kevin Laws, Dr. Frank Johnson, Dr. Randy Hoover, Dr. Ray Lamb, and the Nursing Staff of 5400, Johnson City Medical Center. Those who plan to attend the committal service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
