Swanay 09/20/99 Mrs. Mary Alice Blevins Swanay, 77, Woodvalley Drive, Huntsville, Ala., died Thursday, September 9, 1999, at Huntsville Hospital. A native of Carter County, she was born at Carden's Bluff and was a daughter of the late Charles A. and Iris Maude Smith Blevins. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Joseph Russell Swanay, August 25, 1999. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Hubert, Thomas, an infant, Woodrow, Paul and Mark, and by three sisters, Blanche, Daisy and Goldie, also an infant. Mrs. Swanay was a housewife and a member of the Doe River Baptist Church in Elizabethton. She was a 1941 graduate of Hampton High School. She had worked as a beauty operator in Greeneville, Tenn., and had participated in Girl Scout activities. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Swanay Parks, Huntsville, Ala., and Carole Swanay Johnson, Tuscaloosa, Ala., and two granddaughters, Susan Elizabeth Parks and Alice Susannah Johnson. Several nieces and nephews and other relatives also survive. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, at the Gallant Funeral Home Chapel in Hazel Green, Ala., with Dr. Tommy Bolan officiating.
