Taylor Delmas V. Taylor, 83, 203 Reynolds Road, Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2007, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Henry Thomas and Docia Richardson Taylor. Mr. Taylor was retired from the Veterans Administration at Mountain Home, Tenn. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II, where he received a Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of the Watauga Masonic Lodge #622 F&AM and a lifetime member of the D.A.V. Mr. Taylor was a member of Eastside Freewill Baptist Church. He loved working with his tractor and cattle and enjoyed farming. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Booher Taylor, five brothers, Arthur, Sexton, Ben, Alf Gene and J.N. Taylor, and a sister, Beryl Taylor. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Penny and Jerry Cole, Johnson City, and Shelia and Jim Hartley, Elizabethton; two sons and daughters- in-law, Frank and Carolyn Taylor and Skip and Lesia Taylor, all of Elizabethton; a sister, Mary Alice Arnold, Elizabethton; eight grandchildren, Ben Cole and wife Jammie, Knoxville, Chad Taylor, Elizabethton, Rebecca Cole Brown and husband Mike, Commerce, Ga., Jason Hartley and wife Tiffany, Elizabethton, Bethany Cole Russell and husband Scott, Knoxville, Emily Ruth Hartley and fiancé Lucas Hughes, Elizabethton, Codi Taylor Brock and husband Robert, Elizabethton, and Jesse Taylor, Elizabethton; three great- grandchildren, Ella Grace Cole, Knoxville, Samuel Lee Brown, Commerce, Ga., and Nathaniel Luke Hartley, Elizabethton; two special friends, Bob Rasnick and Haven White, both of Elizabethton; and special music friends, Lori, Amber and April Langlois, all of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Taylor will be conducted at 6 p.m. Monday, September 17, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Pastor Baron Eliason officiating. Music will be under the direction of Scott Reynolds and Lee Ruffin. The family will receive friends Monday following the funeral service with light refreshments. The graveside service and interment will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 18, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with military honors being conducted by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166 of Elizabethton. Friends and family are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday to travel to the cemetery together in procession. Active pallbearers will be selected from grandsons, nephews, neighbors and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be David Mink, Vernon Gouge and Bob Rasnick. The family would like to give a special thanks to the nursing staff of Hermitage Health Center for the loving and devoted care given to Mr. Taylor during his illness.
