Taylor, Sr. Mr. William W. "Bill" Taylor, Sr., 81, 624 Gap Creek Road, Elizabethton, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mr. Taylor was a lifelong resident of Carter County and a son of the late William Emmert and Flara Smith Taylor. He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Louise Taylor. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Mr. Taylor was a retired mechanical supervisor with Nor-Well Co. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include his wife, Vergie Willis Taylor, of the home; one son, William "Woody" Taylor, Columbia, S.C.; one daughter, Teresa Ann Hopson, Elizabethton; seven sisters, Mrs. Mary Baker, Versailles, Ohio; Mrs. Edna Archer and Mrs. Mildred Carriger, both of Johnson City; Miss Evelyn Taylor, Mrs. Pauline Edwards, and Mrs. Betty Roten, all of Elizabethton; and Mrs. Margaret Carver, Hampton; five grandchildren, Michael Taylor, Chelsea Quebec; Julie T. Eadie, Columbia, S.C.; Tom Hopson, Elizabethton; Janey Taylor, Columbia, S.C.; and Chrissy Hopson, Knoxville, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews. "Bill" Taylor, Sr., 81, 624 Gap Creek Road, Elizabethton, will be held at 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Shelton officiating. The eulogy will be delivered by Mrs. Blanche Nicholson. Music will be by Mr. David Arney, organist, and Mrs. Julie T. Eadie, soloist. Active pallbearers will be Bob Schaff, David Pinckard, Don McKeehan, Clarence Willis, Terry Proffitt and John Norris. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the First Church of the Nazarene. Graveside service and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Garden of Devotion at Happy Valley Memorial Park with military honors accorded by Capt. Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post 2166. To those who desire, memorials may be made to the Carter County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 776, Elizabethton, TN 37644. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Monday prior to the service.
