CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Coy L. Taylor Sr., 24 Dec 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Coy L. Taylor Sr., 76, S. Roan Street, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, December 24, 2003, at James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center Hospital, Mountain Home, following a brief illness. Mr. Taylor was a native of Carter County and the son of the late G. Jay and Goldie Taylor. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Lillie McQueen, Chelsea White, Ruth Estep and Lena Gregory Taylor, and six brothers, Brooks Taylor, Cephas Taylor, Sterling Taylor, Anderson Taylor, John Taylor and Roy Taylor. Mr. Taylor attended Moore's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church. He was owner/operator of 7 Hour Laundry and Elizabethton Steam Laundry. He was a past member of the Kiwanis Club, Elizabethton Elks Club, Pony League - Youth Baseball, and Chairperson for United Way and the Boy's Club. He received his Associate Degree in Business at Steed College. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Stewart and Teresa Taylor, Snellville, Ga., Hensel and Brenda Taylor, Greeneville, Coy Taylor Jr. and Kathy Tipton Taylor, Hampton, and Austin and Jana Taylor, Birmingham, Ala.; seven grandchildren, Derik Taylor and his wife Amy, Swanee, Ga., Brad Taylor, Snellville, Ga., Brandi Taylor, Hampton, Josh Taylor, Kingsport, Alec Taylor, Sean Taylor and Austin Taylor, all of Birmingham, Ala.; one great-grandson, Davis Taylor, Swanee, Ga.; two brothers, Freeman Taylor and Jack Taylor, both of Elizabethton; and two sisters, Loretta Norris and Lois Jean McClure, both of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 28, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with the Rev. Clarence Phillips officiating. Music will be under the direction of Brenda Taylor, soloist. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, December 29, at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home. Active pallbearers will be Derik Taylor, Brad Taylor, Kenny Webb, Eddie Garland, Kenneth Taylor and Mickey Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be former employees, Kirby Taylor and Philip Taylor. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at noon on Monday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home.
