CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - J. Allen Thomas, 8 Feb 2005 ----¤¤¤---- J. Allen Thomas, 78, Hampton Drive, Bristol, formerly of Elizabethton, died Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr. Thomas was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Jerry M. and Laura Allen Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lori Hofmann Thomas, July 18, 2001, and two sisters, Louise Marsh and Judy Hartell. Mr. Thomas was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Elizabethton, and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Council No. 10743. He had served as past Grand Knight, and was also a 4th degree Knight. He was a member of the Elizabethton Kiwanis Club. Mr. Thomas retired as comptroller from Beaunit Fibers, Elizabethton. Survivors include his wife, Ann Tipton Thomas, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Jack Barton, Charlotte, N.C., and Lori Lee and Mark Williams, Holly Springs, N.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Kary Thomas, Johnson City; a stepdaughter, Kitty Martin Pitini, Bristol; a stepson and his wife, Steve and Lisa Martin, Bristol; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert "Bud" and Nancy Jane Thomas, Elizabethton; grandchildren, Michelle Curtis and her husband Ricky, Bristol, Liz Thomas, Johnson City, Chris Barton and his wife Angela, Charlotte, N.C., Robert Barton, Charlotte, N.C., Lauren Williams and Michael Williams, both of Holly Springs, N.C.; and two stepgranddaughters, Ashley Brooks and her husband Joel, Knoxville, and Ann K. Pitini, Atlanta, Ga. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, February 11, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 510 West C. Street, Elizabethton, with Rev. Dennis J. Kress and Rev. Dr. Paul Hamilton Fuller IV officiating. The Honor Guard at the church will be the Knights of Columbus of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Council No. 10743. The committal and entombment service will follow at the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park, Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, February 10, in the Fireside Room of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton.
