CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Roy W. "Pete" Tipton, 24 Oct 2002 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Roy W. Tipton Roy W. "Pete" Tipton, 76, 149 Hampton Creek Road, Roan Mountain, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Mack and Hulda Green Tipton. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lon, Blaine, and Warren Tipton; and two sisters, Lucy Birchfield and Ted Richardson. Mr. Tipton was of the Baptist faith. He was a printer in Illinois before returning to Roan Mountain in 1974. He worked at Sugar Mountain Ski Resort until he retired. He was a member of the VFW and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Hazel Burleson Tipton, of the home; two sons, Roy W. Tipton, Illinois, and Gary M. Tipton, Roan Mountain; one daughter, Pamela Tipton Cabe, Roan Mountain; a special nephew, Mitchell Brown, Roan Mountain; two sisters, Bertha White, Hampton, and Josephine Coleman, Roan Mountain; one brother, Robert Tipton, Cleveland, Ohio; six grandchildren, Jamie, Jason and Jodie Tipton, all of Illinois, and Brian and Kelsey Tipton and Jessica Cabe, all of Roan Mountian; and several nieces and nephews. "Pete" Tipton, age 76, who died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at First Baptist Church, Roan Mountain, with the Rev. Richard Stout officiating. Music will be under the direction of Strees of Gold. Graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Johnson-Roanview Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be Ralph Watson, Mark Tipton, Mitchell Brown, Eric Brown, Eddie Burleson and Brian Tipton. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. E.H. Smith, Dr. Amand Kahn and Gunther Jochl. Military honors will be accorded by VFW Post No. 4286, Newland, N.C. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the church at 1:15 p.m. Monday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service, or at the residence, 149 Hampton Creek Road, at anytime.
