Quillen VA Medical Center after an extended illness. Mr. Tolley was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Dempsey and Lodema Tolley. Mr. Tolley was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. He entered the service January 1942, took training at the Jackson Air Base, Jackson, Miss., and served in the European Theater. He was a recipient of Seven Bronze Stars, The Good Conduct Medal and The Good Conduct Ribbon. He received the European Theater Ribbon. While in service he attended the St. James Church in Florence, Italy and other churches in Italy. He was a Disabled American Veteran. He was a member of the Fairview Free Will Baptist Church but attended the Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church, where he received a 14-year perfect attendance in Sunday School. Survivors include his wife, Kate Stevens Tolley; four daughters, Brenda Simerly and Barbara Moffett, both of Hampton, Helen Blevins and Janice Stout, both of Elizabethton; two sisters, Mae Woodby, Unicoi, and Bertha Woodby, Hampton; a brother, Joshua Tolley, Elizabethton; 12 grandchildren, Denise Norris, Lisa White, Angelia Smith, Scott Simerly, April Townsend, Kim Simerly, Kristi Simerly, Randy Woodby, Kevin Woodby, Tawana Holland, LaDanna Boone and Bobby Stout Jr.; seven great-grandchildren, Katie Jo Norris, Andrea Smith, Alexis Townsend, Morgan Guy, Taylor Julian, Tyler Woodby and Emrie Boone; also special friends, Tonya Buchanan, George Stanley and Gwyn Cole. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
