Magdalene Tolley, 75, Verle Street, Hampton, died Sunday, July 17, 2005, at
Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. 

Mrs. Tolley was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Thomas
and Mary Swaner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a
son, Roger Tolley, a granddaughter, Stacey Tolley, a brother, Elonzo Swaner,
and a sister, Edna Swaner. 

Mrs. Tolley was a member of Fairview Free Will Baptist Church and was a
homemaker. 

Survivors include her husband, Clifford Tolley, of the home; three sons and a
daughter-in-law, Gilmer and Mabel Tolley, Harlan Tolley and Marvin Tolley, all
of Hampton; a daughter, Louise Miller, Mountain City; six grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Betty Swaner,
Elizabethton; and four sisters and a brother-in-law, Emma Jean and John
Morton, Elizabethton, Ina Bea Myers, Johnson City, Ethel Lee Peters, Hickory,
N.C., and Olive Miller, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.


The funeral service for Mrs. Tolley will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, July
19, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Bernie Jones and
Rev. Gary Whitehead officiating. The family will receive friends at the
funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the funeral service. Interment
will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, in the Tolley Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Mitchell Rhinehart, Lester Tolley, Terry Miller,
Jack Smith, Ed Vanover, Larry Tolley, Perry Sneed and Larry Morton Jr.
Honorary pallbearer will be Luisjose Gayton. Those who wish to attend the
graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Wednesday
to go in procession to the cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the
