CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Rex S. Townsend, 8 May 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Rex S. Townsend Rex S. Townsend, 77, 109 Townsend Circle, Johnson City, died unexpectedly Thursday, May 8, 2003, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Mr. Townsend was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Hobert Lee and Hattie Hodges Townsend. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Hobert Townsend. Mr. Townsend was a member of Elizabethton Church of Christ and was retired as a painter with the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his wife, Marcella Carter Townsend, of the home; a son, Dale S. Townsend, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Richard Highsmith, Hampton; and three brothers, Ford Townsend, Glen Townsend and Bob Townsend, all of Johnson City. Townsend, 77, 109 Townsend Circle, Johnson City, who died Thursday, May 8, 2003, were conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 10, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Mr. Eddy Craft and Mr. Ed DeVault, ministers, officiating. Music was under the direction of Elizabethton Church of Christ Singers. Graveside services and interment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 11, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Tom Townsend, John Townsend, Steve Townsend, Jeff Townsend, Kevin Townsend, Bob Jones and Bill Foster. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Elizabethton Church of Christ and Dr. Charles Cole. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home. Friends may also call at the residence, 109 Townsend Circle, Johnson City, at any time.
