Dennis Townsend

Dennis Townsend, 77, Rittertown Rd., Hampton, died Sunday, 
July 4, 2004 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late John and Hattie 
Miller Townsend.

Mr. Townsend was a retired truck driver for Bolton Block Company, 
Johnson City.

He was a member of the Fork Mountain Free Will Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Townsend was a lover of animals.

Survivors include his wife, Dokie Ward Townsend; a step-daughter, 
Ruby Fay Smith, Hampton; a step-son, Allen Nelson, Hampton; three 
step-grandchildren; two sisters, Ira Hass, of Akard, S.C. and Betty 
Harley, of Roan Mountain; one brother, Jason (Bud) Honeycutt, Hampton; 
several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2004 in 
Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ronald Stevens and Rev. Terry 
Jones officiating. Graveside services and burial will be held at 11 
a.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2004 in the Hill Cemetery, Roan Mtn. Active 
pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 
10:15 a.m. Wednesday will be Allen Nelson, Johnny Nelson, A.T. 
Honeycutt, Kelly Honeycutt, Leon Guy, Michael Guy, Darin Lacy, and 
friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in 
the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. Family and 
friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday to 
go to the cemetery. Condolences to the Townsend family may be e-mailed
