Eugene Vandeventer E. Eugene Vandeventer, 77, 600 Bradley Street, Elizabethton, died Monday, April 23, 2007, at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Luther and Victoria Ritchie Vandeventer. Mr. Vandeventer was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He attended Oak Street Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Vandeventer was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rebecca Vandeventer, and a sister, Maureen Bowman. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Geraldine Lipford Vandeventer; a daughter, Vickie Lee Clark, Elizabethton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Terry Wayne and Vicki Vandeventer, Elizabethton, and Paul Douglas Vandeventer, Knoxville; his grandchildren, John Michael Clark and his wife Carli, Christopher Lee Clark, Jamie Lee Vandeventer and his wife Sissy, Lori Ann Vandeventer and Jade Brook Vandeventer; three great-grandchildren, Kayla Vandeventer, Cannon Clark and Madisyn Oliver Vandeventer; and a sister, Margie Boling, Bluff City. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Vandeventer will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Hendrich and the Rev. Bob Polk officiating. Music will be provided by Bill Fancher, Daniel Boner and the Oak Street Baptist Church Quartet. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, will be Michael Clark, Chris Clark, Jamie Vandeventer, Howard Nelson, Kevin Lipford and Jackie Snavely. Honorary pallbearers will be Clarence Bowman, Mack Merritt, James Pierce, Marty Dumpys, Floyd Vandeventer, Clifford Vandeventer, Phil Vandeventer, Clyde Nelson, Paul Nelson, Matthew Lipford, Mitchell Lipford, Gary Boling, Steve Hilman and his Oak Street Baptist Church Family. Military Honors will be provided by the V.F.W. Post No. 2166 and the Tennessee National Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery.
