CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Vera Lee Julian Vance, 20 Sep 2003 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Vera Vance Vera Lee Julian Vance, age 73, of Heaton Creek Rd., Roan Mountain, died Saturday, September 20, 2003 at her residence following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Earnest and Mollie Street Julian. She was a member of the Upper Heaton Creek Holiness Church and was retired from the Carter County School System, Cloudland Elementary School, where she was a teacher's aide in special education. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy A. Vance, on August 14, 1996. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Kappie Lee and Donald Vance, of Newland, N.C.; three sons and two daughters-in- law, Larry and Rosemary Vance, of Elizabethton; Ron and Carolyn Vance, of Roan Mountain, and Danny Ray Vance, also of Roan Mountain; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Marie and Walter Wise, of Marion, N.C.; Rada and J.B. Jones, of Tarpon Springs, Fla; one brother and sister-in-law, Maynard and Shirley Julian, of Roan Mountain; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A special caregiver, Kerry Clark, of Roan Mountain, also survives. The funeral service for Vera Vance will be conducted at 8 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2003 at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain with Rev. Jim McMahan and Mr. J.L. Holtsclaw officiating. Music will be under the direction of John Charles Tolley and Sherry Jack Clawson. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at Earnest Julian Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be Michael Vance, Roy Dale Vance, Zachary Vance, Jim McKinney, Garfield "Ook" Freeman, and Floyd Hodge. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Daniel Frayne, Howard Metcalf, Bedford Transon, Nick Hodge, Roy Troutman, Sid Smithdeal, Bill Elliott, Warren Macbeth, Albert Lounds, and Harold Bethany. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home on Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2003 at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, or other times at the residence, 690 Heaton Creek Road, Roan Mountain, at any time.
