Vandeventer Mrs. Nell Irene Vandeventer, 85, 611 Bradley Street, Elizabethton, died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness. Mrs. Vandeventer was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Millard S. and Lela Peregory Proffitt. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John D. "J.D." Vandeventer, January 26, 1998, and a son, Darrell Vandeventer. Mrs. Vandeventer was a homemaker and a member of the Elizabethton Church of Christ. Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Wilma and Wayne Boswell, Limestone, Nancy Miller, Aiken, S.C., and Shirley Hardin, Elizabethton; three brothers, Nat Proffitt, Elizabethton, Lloyd Proffitt, Johnson City, and Jimmy Proffitt, Watauga; and three sisters, Mrs. Grace Crowder, Bluff City, Mrs. Sue Miller and Mrs. Mary Bare, both of Morristown. Eighteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. VANDEVENTER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Nell Irene Vandeventer, 85, 611 Bradley Street, Elizabethton, who died Sunday, May 20, 2001, will be conducted at 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Ed DeVault and Mr. Wayne Boswell officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be her church family. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at her residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
