Stella R. Ward 





    Stella Ruth Potter Ward, 76, 1021 Bluefield Avenue, Elizabethton, went to 

be with the Lord on Sunday, November 12, 2006, at Johnson City Medical Center 

following a lengthy illness. 





    A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Brownlow and 

Lelia Morton Potter. 





    Mrs. Ward was a lifetime member of Stone Mountain Baptist Church. She was 

a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved helping 

everyone. She will missed by all her family and friends. 





    In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ward was preceded in death by her 

husband, Troy Butler Ward, a granddaughter, Kimberly Church, a great-grandson, 

Dalton Story, two brothers, J.C. Potter and Martin Smith, and a sister, Amy 

Heaton. 





    Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Nona and Leslie Church 

of Elk Mills and Darlene Guy of Hampton; a son, Steve Ward of Elizabethton; 

five grandchildren, Robert and Jason Church, Chris Guy, Vickie Holmes and 

Amanda Guy; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Selma 

and Roy Dugger and Rana Trivette, all of Poga; and a sister-in-law, Sylvia 

Smith of Poga. Several nieces and nephews also survive. 





    The funeral service for Mrs. Ward will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, 

November 16, at Stone Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Church 

officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. 

Thursday, prior to the service. Friends may call at the residence at other 

times. The graveside service will be conducted following the funeral service 

at Stone Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Leslie 

Church, Allen Byrd, Roy Dugger, Robert Church, Robert Birchfield, Jeff Guy, 

Arthur Smith and Chris Guy. Honorary pallbearers will be R.V. Smith and Floyd
