Watson Nellie R. Watson, 70, of Roan Highlands Nursing Center, formerly of 5608 Hwy. 19E, Roan Mountain, went to be in eternal peace and rest on Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at Johnson City Medical Center after a very extensive illness. Mrs. Watson was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Denver and Victoria Hodge Moretz. She was a very loving mother and will be sadly missed by both family and friends who survive her. Mrs. Watson had made Roan Highlands Nursing Center her home for the past year. She loved to play bingo and enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society. The family wishes to extend a special "thank you" to the staff of Roan Highlands Nursing Center for the loving care given to Mrs. Watson. Also, a very warm "thank you" to all the staff and doctors of Johnson City Medical Center for all the care and support they provided. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by her husband, James Watson, six sisters, Ivalee Sharon, Ilene Gwinn, Barbara Whitman, Shelby Wilson, Shirley Moretz and Fredia Buckles, and two brothers, Charles Moretz and Willie Moretz. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Tim Simerly, Elizabethton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James and Roberta Watson, La Grange, N.C., and Johnny Watson, Nashville; five grandchildren, Donna Simerly and Kayla Simerly, both of Elizabethton, Tammy Watson and Misty Watson, both of La Grange, N.C., and Sherry Parks, of North Carolina; and four great- grandchildren. In addition, she had a very special niece whom she considered a daughter, Louise Canter, Elizabethton, and two special friends, Nellie Julian and Mary Hoss, both of Roan Mountain. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The graveside service for Mrs. Watson will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at Whitehead Cemetery with Rev. Allen Simerly officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Roan Highlands Nursing Center and the doctors and staff of Johnson City Medical Center. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Saturday. The funeral procession will leave at 2 p.m. Saturday to go to the cemetery.
