Mr. Whitehead was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Robert and Madge Wright Whitehead. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Faye Whitehead, and a brother, Curtis Ross Whitehead. Mr. Whitehead was a retired carpenter with several construction companies. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Mike Feathers, Elizabethton; a son and daughter-in-law, Jessie and Patricia Whitehead, Elizabethton; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Estella Hicks and Wanda Buckles, both of Elizabethton; and four brothers, Roy, Robert Jr., Carmon and Ben Whitehead, all of Elizabethton. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Whitehead will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Hawk officiating. Music will be provided by Melissa Woods. Graveside services and interment will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 23, in the Holly Hill Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 12:20 p.m. Thursday, will be Ron Wagonfeller, Ray Whitehead, Jeff Whitehead, Jim Whitehead, Terry Whitehead and Clint Cox. Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Peters, Miles McCloud, Paul Waters and Mike Whitehead. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 12:20 p.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery. Online condolences may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
