Robert N. Whitehead 





    Robert Nelson Whitehead, 74, Elizabethton, died Sunday April 8, 2007, in 

Erwin. 





    A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Bob and Madge Wright 

Whitehead. He was a retired construction worker. 





    Mr. Whitehead was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Louisa Bice 

Whitehead. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Curtis and Carl 

Whitehead. 





    Survivors include a son, Rocky Whitehead and Judy (Little Leaf) Harris, 

Erwin; three daughters, Jean Fortner, Glen Olinger, of Hampton, Denise 

Whitehead and Ken Potter (his fishing buddy) and Mesha and Harley Horton all 

of Elizabethton; one grandson and his wife, Dusty and Lisa Mercer; one great-

granddaughter, Haleigh Mercer; three brothers, Roy Whitehead, Carmon Whitehead 

and Ben Whitehead, all of Elizabethton; two sisters: Estella Hicks and Wanda 

Buckles, both of Elizabethton; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces 

and great-nephews. 





    Memorial services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial 

Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Bobby Burrow officiating. Private graveside 

services will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends from 6-

8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers will be family and 

friends. Memorial Funeral Chapel, Elizabethton, is in charge of the 

arrangements.
