He was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Pless and Hazel Pearce Williams. Mr. Williams enjoyed being an active member of Grace Baptist Church. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and had retired from Inland Container after 42 years of service. Playing golf and camping were his favorite forms of recreation. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Victoria Holt and one brother, Dallas Williams. Survivors are his wife of 50 years, Nancy Crow Williams of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Lisa Williams, South Bend Ind.; one daughter, Connie Metcalf, Johnson City; four grandchildren, Bethany Hurt, Emilee Williams, Tod Holt, and Hunter Metcalf; and three sisters and brothers- in-law, Shirley Jean and Buddy Rowan, Searcy, Alaska, Wanda Lee and Tommy McKeehan, and Deanna and Paul Baird, all of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Williams was held at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with the Rev. Ron Owens and the Rev. Chris Hughes officiating. Music was under the direction of the Rev. Gordon Kyte and Harol Smith, soloists, and Pat Presnell, pianist. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday in the chapel prior to the service or at the residence at any time. The committal service and entombment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m. Sunday. Active pallbearers will be Wayne Peeks, Dean Grindstaff, Dennis Crow, Paul Stout, Ervin Ketchem, Sonny Slagle, Mike Holt, Mike Slagle, Jim Kyte and Carl Canter, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Grace Baptist Church and co- workers of Inland Container. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the "Together We Dream - Debt Retirement Fund" of Grace Baptist Church, 1114 Broad St., Elizabethton, TN 37643.
