CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Dallas Ray Walker, 19 Apr 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Dallas Ray Walker, 76, Winters Private Drive, Elizabethton, died Monday April 19, 2004, at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital, Mountain Home, TN, following an extended illness. Mr. Walker was native of Exeter, Va., and had lived in Carter County most of his life. He was the son of the late Earl and Lillie Peters Walker. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Edith Evelyn Guy Walker, June 26, 1995, a sister, Betty Williams, in 1996, and a brother, Eugene Walker, in 1944. Mr. Walker was a member of Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church and a retired employee of the Carter County Highway Department. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Townsend Walker, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Kaye and Malcolm Weathers, Tampa, Fla.; five step-children; several step-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Nyoka and Sherrell Perry, Elizabethton; a brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Sharon Walker, Elizabethton; and a brother-in-law, Lucian Williams, Mt. Laguna, Calif. Four nieces and two nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Elmer Carter and the Rev. Stephen Harris officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Rev. Stephen Harris. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the funeral service. Friends may also call at the residence, 1009 Winters Private Drive, Elizabethton, or at the residence of a sister and brother-in-law, Nyoka and Sherrell Perry, 143 Bernie Lewis Road, Elizabethton, any time. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 22, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Military Honors to be accorded by the Tennessee Army National Guard Troop F 2nd/278 ACR Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Mac Merritt, Grayson Winters, Don Hardin, Olan Hardin, Joe Lewis, Lester Lewis, Dick Peters and Leonard Lewis. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Carter County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 682, Elizabethton, TN 37644.
