CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Gladys R. Ward, 28 Apr 2004

Gladys R. Ward, 88, Higgs Rd., Watauga, died Wednesday, April 
28, 2004 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Cannie 
and Rena Shipley Carr.

She was a faithful housewife and one who loved her family.
She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church, Watauga.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Loretta, and a 
young son, Alec, along with four sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, John C. Ward, Sr.; a 
daughter and son-in-law, Bernice and Phil Hyder, Watauga; two sons 
and daughters-in-law, John "Pete" and Pat Ward and Gary "DOB" and 
Judy Ward, all of Watauga; six sisters, Zula Carter, Wanda Minton, 
Ollie Bradley, Evelyn McDuffie, and Ann Dula, all of Elizabethton, 
and Lucille Brooks, Bristol, Tenn.; a brother, J.C. Carr, Bluff City; 
a brother-in-law, Orville Richardson; grandchildren, John P. Hyder 
and wife, Sharon; Kimberly Ward, James Ward and wife, Leigh Ann; 
Anisa Hill, and Cory Ward and wife Cherie; great-grandchildren, 
Brandon Ward, Morgan Ward, Amber Ward, Summer Ward, Chelsea and Allie 
Hill and Alexis Buhro. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2004 
in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Kenneth Jordan officiating. The 
eulogy will be given by James Ward. Pallbearers will be selected from 
family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. 
Thursday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at her residence. 
Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. 
Friday to go to the cemetery. Condolences may be e-mailed to
