Mr. Whaley was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Clydia Timbs Whaley. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Anna Matherly Whaley, and three brothers, Glen Whaley, Ed Whaley and Ellie Whaley. Mr. Whaley was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation and Bemberg Corporation. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II. Survivors include a daughter, Martha Ann Thompson, Blountville; a brother, Dewey Whaley, Elizabethton; a grandson, Christopher Thompson, Johnson City; and two sisters-in-law, Sonya Whaley, Johnson City, and Irene Whaley of Ohio. WHALEY -- Funeral services for Leonard Whaley, 77, 132 Ruby Avenue, Elizabethton, who died Wednesday, November 8, 2000, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, November 10, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with Mr. Gerald Holly, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Sims Hill Quartet. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 11, in the Sims Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be D.L. Whaley, Delmar Whaley, Scott Whaley, Dean Lunceford, Mack Henry, Danny Matherly, Jimmy Cole and Tim Carr. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Glover, Terry Miller, Glenn Hampton, Carl Boyd, Norman Julian, "Bo" Colbaugh, Kelsey Smith, Tom Hoss, friends and neighbors. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
