Whitehead 02/22/99 Charlie E. Whitehead, 84, Rt. 2, Dennis Cove Road, Hampton, died Friday, February 19, 1999, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton following a short illness. Mr. Whitehead was a native of Hampton and a son of the late Cleve and Annie Holly Whitehead. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Martine Whitehead. Mr. Whitehead returned to Carter County following his military career. He was a retired Sergeant with the U.S. Army, serving in World War II, with more than 20 years of service. He was of the Free Will Baptist Faith. Survivors include three brothers, Dave Whitehead, San Diego, Calif., Joe Whitehead, Roan Mountain, and Martin Whitehead, Whitesburg, Ga., and five sisters, Orpha Norris, Watauga, Hazel Oliver and Mary Hollaway, both of Elizabethton, Ethel Childers, Hampton, and Geneva Smalling, Watauga. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. WHITEHEAD -- Funeral services for Charlie E. Whitehead, 84, Rt. 2, Dennis Cove Road, Hampton, who died Friday, will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday at Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, with Rev. Tony Oliver officiating. Music will be by Jerry Barnett, soloist. Graveside services and interment will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Whitehead Cemetery with Military Honors by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Norris, Doug Smalling, Tony Oliver, Michael Whitehead, Danny Joe Whitehead, Jessie Whitehead, Robert Whitehead, Adam Smith, Jeff Whitehead and Cleve Ingle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
