Whitehead 01/11/99 Elsie Street Whitehead, 77, 121 Cemetery Hill Lane (Whitehead Hill Section), Roan Mountain, died Saturday, January 9, 1999, at Cannon Memorial Hospital, Banner Elk, N.C., following an extended illness. Ms. Whitehead was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late McKinney and Effie Clark Street. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Luther Whitehead, and a son. Ms. Whitehead was a member of Fork Mountain Free Will Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Survivors include nine sons, J.D. Whitehead, Arden Whitehead and Terry Whitehead, all of Roan Mountain, Randy Whitehead, Hampton, D.L. Whitehead, Jack Whitehead, Robert Whitehead, Kenneth Whitehead and Delaney Whitehead, all of Elizabethton; two daughters, Wanda (June) Lyons, Marion, N.C., and Susan Burdick, Scottsdale, Ariz.; 27 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; an aunt, Arie Russell, Hampton; and special friends, Trula Fortner and Mandy Potter, both of Roan Mountain. Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, is in charge of arrangements. WHITEHEAD -- Funeral services for Elsie Street Whitehead, 77, 121 Cemetery Hill Lane (Whitehead Hill Section), Roan Mountain, who died Saturday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, with Rev. Gary Whitehead officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Sunset Quartet. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Cornett Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Andes, Sonny Whitehead, Don Banner, Robbie Callaway, Mitch Tolley, David Townsend, Donnie Townsend, Danny Guinn, J.L. Potter, Ralph Potter and Willard Largent. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 12:55 p.m. Wednesday for the graveside service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence any time.
