Mr. Whitehead was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Homer and Ruth Pearce Whitehead. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Angela Whitehead Montgomery. Mr. Whitehead was employed for 40 years at North American Rayon Corporation in the Dying and Packing Department, and retired after ten years from Snap-on Tools. He was an active member of Crabtree Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Cates Whitehead; two daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Eddie Burrow, Elizabethton, and Sharon and Mike Collins, Hampton; three sisters, Pansy Bryan, Boone, N.C., Daisy Wike, Lenoir, N.C., and Clara Simerly, Hampton; a brother, Leonard Whitehead, Fairfax, Va.; and four grandchildren, Michael Collins, April Collins, Matthew Montgomery and Rachel Montgomery. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. WHITEHEAD -- Funeral services for Ralph Whitehead, 71, 142 Tilson Avenue, Hampton, who died Saturday, September 2, 2000, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, September 3, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Peterson officiating. The Crabtree Church Choir will provide the music. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday, September 4, in the Hyder-Pierce Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from the men of Crabtree Free Will Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Monday. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
