Mrs. Whitehead was a native of Carter County and had lived most of her adult life in Chattanooga. She was the daughter of the late Jahnce and Lena Bell Forney Gardner and was also preceded in death by her husband, Albert Whitehead, and by five brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Whitehead attended St. Paul United Methodist Church of Elizabethton and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Chattanooga. Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Whitehead and Betty Whitehead, both of Chattanooga; three sisters, Idella Young and Nannie Terry, both of Elizabethton, and Ethel Pound, Chattanooga; a granddaughter, Devanie Whitehead, Chattanooga; and a great-aunt, Tillie Avery, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, (423) 543-4917, is in charge of arrangements. www.Funeral-Plans.com/Tetrick WHITEHEAD -- Funeral services for Mamie Whitehead, 85, formerly of 814 Johnson Avenue, Elizabethton, who died Thursday, March 15, 2001, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with the Rev. Ernest Widby and the Rev. Dennis Milligan officiating. Music will be under the direction of Kerroll Thompson and the St. Paul United Methodist Church Choir. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 19, at Gardner Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m. Monday for the graveside service. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of a sister, Nannie Terry, 608 Summitt Avenue, Elizabethton, at any time, or at the residence of a niece, Johnnie Weaver, 914 Cedar Avenue, Elizabethton, at any time.
