Whitehead Mrs. Effie Holtzclaw Whitehead, 89, Ivy Hall Nursing Home, formerly of Hampton, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Mrs. Whitehead was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late John C. and Celia Whitehead Holtzclaw. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Whitehead, and by two brothers. Mrs. Whitehead was a member of the Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Phyllis and Richard Harry Vines, Joyce and Donald Matherly and Janet McCorkle, all of Elizabethton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Gracita (Grace) Whitehead, Elizabethton, and Leslie and Gloria Whitehead, Hampton; a sister, Bernice Cable, Marion, N.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Cline and Lena Holtzclaw, Johnson City; four grandchildren, Gracita (Sharli) Melber, Adam Matherly and Steve Tipton, all of Elizabethton, and Jauonia Powell, Martinel, Ga.; five great-grandchildren, Chelsea Melber, Chase Melber and Lacy Tipton, all of Elizabethton, and LeAnna Powell and Cary Powell, both of Martinel, Ga.; and four sisters-in-law, Myrtle Holtzclaw and Kay Holtzclaw, both of Charleston, S.C., Arizona Hopson, Hampton, and Julia Miller, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. WHITEHEAD -- Funeral services for Mrs. Effie Holtzclaw Whitehead, 89, Ivy Hall Nursing Home, formerly of Hampton, who died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 20, at Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy Cates and the Rev. Shane Waters officiating. Music will be provided by the church choir. Interment will be in the Whitehead Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be nephews and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Robert Grindstaff, Judy Deloach and the Staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residences of any of her children. Mrs. Whitehead will be moved to the church one hour before the service. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
