CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Mae K. Whitehead, 14 Oct 2003 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Mae K. Whitehead Mae K. Whitehead, age 95, Whitehead Hollow Rd., Roan Mountain died Tuesday, October 14, 2003, at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Elisha and Cora Cornett Townsend. She was a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Whitehead; a son, James Whitehead; a granddaughter, Linda Markland; six brothers and two sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Irene Townsend, of the home; Nellie Markland, Roan Mountain; 12 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 25 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Mamie Shell, Roan Mountain. The funeral service will be conducted Thursday, October 16, 2003, at 8 p.m. at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, with the Rev. Ronald Stevens officiating. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, October 17, 2003 at Holly Hill Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearer will be Freddy Largent. A special thank you to Home Health Care Nurses from Housecall Hospice. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:55 p.m. on Friday. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m,. Thursday, October 16, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, or friends may call at the residence of a grandson, Mearl Townsend, 109 Thunder Rd., Roan Mountain any time.
