CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Mack Whitehead, 16 Apr 2004

Mack Whitehead, 77, Hampton, died Friday, April 16, 2004, in the James 
H. Quillen VA Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son 
of the late John H. and Bessie Townsend Whitehead. He was a retired 
employee of North American Rayon CorporationMr. Whitehead served in the 
United States Army during World War II. He was a Free Will Baptist. 

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Woodby Whitehead; four daughters and 
three sons-in-law, Barbara and Sidney Smith, Elizabethton, Angela and 
Jeffery Hathaway, Milton, Fla., and Kathy and Jimmy Collins, Tolbert; 
and Donna Whitehead, Elizabethton; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael 
and Maxine Whitehead, Elizabethton; grandchildren, Nikki Larae Smith, 
James Matthew Collins, Michael Jonathan Whitehead, Michael Dale Whitehead, 
Jr., and David Daniel Hathaway; great-grandchildren, Carl Michael Stevens 
and Nina Whitehead; three brothers, Earnest, Bynum and Lee Whitehead, all 
of Elizabethton; two sisters, Cordia Jones and Ellen Stout, both of 
Hampton; and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Funeral 
Chapel with the Rev. Gary Whitehead officiating. Graveside Service and 
interment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. James 
Matthew Collins will provide the music. Pallbearers will be sons-in-law 
and grandsons. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday 
in the funeral home. Friends may also call at 189 Clay Little Road, 
Elizabethton. Military Honors by the Tennessee Army National Guard Burial 
Detail. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m.
