CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Lawrence Whitehead, 1 Nov 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Lawrence Whitehead, 88, Gap Creek Road, Hampton, died Monday, November 1, 2004, at his residence. Mr. Whitehead was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Larkin and Nannie Largent Whitehead. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Peters Whitehead, and by a sister and four brothers. Mr. Whitehead was a retired mechanic with the Carter County Highway Department. He was a member of Union Baptist Church and a charter member of Hampton Masonic Lodge #750. Survivors include a brother, Charlie Whitehead, Roan Mountain. Several nieces and nephews and a host of friends and neighbors also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, November 4, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Peter C. Pollard and Rev. Burl Sluder officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, November 5, in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Thursday, will be Gary Smith, Herman Hill, Richard Tester, Bill Estep, Jack Ingram, Ron Pierce and Jerry Nave. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Adult Men's Class of Union Baptist Church, friends and neighbors. Masonic Honors following the service on Thursday night will be by Hampton Masonic Lodge #750. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
