CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Jesse W. Winters, 9 Jul 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Jesse W. Winters Jesse W. Winters, 87, Hurley Hollow Road, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Shell Creek, he was a son of the late William and Bessie Lee Winters. He was a graduate of Cranberry High School and attended Lees-McRae College for two years. Mr. Winters was employed at the former American Bemberg Corporation for 29 years. He retired from Daniels Construction Company, Greenville, South Carolina. Mr. Winters was instrumental in starting the Carter County Rescue Squad. He was a member of Unaka Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Oma Cannon and Mae Stafford, and four brothers, Steve, Lonnie, Dayton, and Burnett Winters. Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Gloria Bishop Winters; a daughter and son-in-law, Sonja and Dean Weaver, Pascagoula, Miss.; a brother, Hansel Winters, Elizabethton; a grandson, John Dewey Weaver, and his wife, June, of Carriere, Miss., and a great granddaughter, Lauren Weaver, of Carriere, Miss. Several nieces and nephews also survive. WINTERS -- Funeral services for Jesse W. Winters, 87, Hurley Hollow Road, Elizabethton, who died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2003 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Walker Roberson officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2003 in the Ensor Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Saturday will be Wade Winters, Richard Cannon, Mike Estep, David Estep, Mike Wiggins, Lynn England, and his two special nephews, Harold Winters and Tim Cannon. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to Dr. Stanley Hodges and the ICU staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Saturday.
