Caroline M. Winters, 83, formerly of Winters Road, Roan Mountain, died Monday,
June 27, 2005, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center following an extended illness.


Mrs. Winters was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Jason
and Jennie Dolan McKinney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in
death by two brothers and a sister. 

Mrs. Winters was a member of Lower Shell Creek Christian Church and a former
employee of the Carter County School System, having worked as a cook. 

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Dan Winters, of the home; a
daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Steve Potter, Elizabethton; a son and
daughter-in-law, Richard and Norma Lee Winters, Roan Mountain; two
grandchildren, Dan Winters and Jennifer Street, both of Roan Mountain; and
three great-grandchildren, Richie Winters, Danny Winters and Nicole Cordell,
all of Roan Mountain. Several nieces and nephews also survive. 

The funeral service for Mrs. Winters will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday,
June 29, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Mr. Gerald
Holly and Mr. Henry Reynolds, ministers, officiating. Music will be under the
direction of Gerald and Gloria Holly. The graveside service and interment will
be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 30, in the Winters Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Those
attending will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Thursday to go in
procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral
home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. Active pallbearers will
be Stephen Potter, Danny Winters, Henry Street, David Winters, Gary McKinney,
Randolph Winters, Harold Maupin and Robert Turbyfill. Honorary pallbearers
will be the members of Lower Shell Creek Christian Church, Dr. Jerry
Gastineau, Paul Wilson, Raymond Hill, Rev. Laney Berry, Rev. Tull Oaks, the
staff of Roan Highlands Nursing Center, the staff of Adventa Hospice, friends
