Williams 1/05/00 MARION, Va. -- Kathryn Mottern Williams, 82, widow of Howard W. Williams, died Monday, December 27, 1999, in Atlanta, Ga. Mrs. Williams was born in Elizabethton in Carter County, Tenn. She attended East Tennessee Teachers College and taught first grade for several years in Elizabethton. She married Howard W. Williams in 1940 and moved with him to Marion, Va., in 1946. She was a homemaker and later served as a secretary in the Smyth County School System. She was a long time member of First United Methodist Church and the Wesleyan Fellowship Sunday School Class and participated in several other church and civic organizations. In 1994, she moved to the Atlanta, Ga., area to be near her family. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Mottern Coleman, and a brother, Edward Mottern. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Page and Dan Walden, Atlanta, Ga.; a grandson, Zack Walden, Athens, Ga.; a granddaughter, Katy Tubesing and husband, Mark, Atlanta, Ga.; and a great-grandson, Jake Tubesing, Atlanta, Ga. WILLIAMS -- A private burial for Kathryn Mottern Williams, 82, who died Monday, December 27, 1999, in Atlanta, Ga., was held on Wednesday, December 29, in Rose Lawn Cemetery. There will be a memorial service, followed by a reception, Sunday, January 16, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Buddy Miller officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 115 South Church Street, Marion, Va., 24354 or to the charity of your choice.
