Mr. Williams was the son of George Quincy Williams and Molly Coffey Williams. He was born in Washington County, Virgnia and had lived in Carter County, Tennessee since 1955. His father, George Quincy Williams was the son of Francis Edmond Williams and Nannie Annie Crumley of Carter County. Francis was the son of John Quincy Williams and Elizabeth Haun. John W. Franklin Williams and Joanna Patton were the parents of John Quincy and John Williams, father of John W. Franklin settled in Carter County in the late 1700's with brothers Mack and Jarrett. Jack Williams retired from the Southern Railroad as a conductor and brakeman. His father also worked for the railroad before him. He was a memeber of East Unaka Baptist Church, Johnson City. Having known Jack personally, I can tell you that he was full of wit and charm and could play a piano like no one I have ever heard. He played for several well known groups and played at the Grand Ole Opry on several occasions. Jack was preceded in death by his daughter, Anne Williams Bailey and one brother, Frank T. Williams. He is survived by his wife, Willie Baxter Williams; his son, George A. Williams of Kingsport; a sister Betty Ruth Statzula of Albuqurque, NM; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Jack is to be buried March 6, 2001 at the Happy Valley Cemetery, Carter County,Tennessee, the same land which was originally his father's home place.
