CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Edward P. Williams, 21 Nov 2002 ----¤¤¤---- Edward P. Williams Edward P. Williams, 89, 2007 Sherwood Drive, Johnson City, Apt. B, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Mr. Williams was a Carter County native and a son of the late Chester Joshua and Lena Hendrix Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Carriger Williams; two brothers, John Jacob Williams and Ward Franklin Williams; and one sister, Mary Catherine Withers. Mr. Williams retired from the United States Air Force after 30 years of service. He served was a World War II, Korean War and the Vietnam War. Following retirement, Mr. Williams worked as a distributor Tech Rubber Co., Johnstown, Ohio. He was a member of First Christian Church, Johnson City, where he formerly served as a deacon and elder. Mr. Williams was a member and past president of the Mr. and Mrs. Sunday School Class. Mr. Williams was a member of Dashiell Masons Dashiell Lodge No. 238 for more than 50 years. He was a member of R.D. Keller Chapter No. 0214, B.E. Wooten Council No. 0119, Carter County Commandery No. 0037, the Anointed Kings, a charter member of the Jericho Temple and the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association of the Armed Forces, the Johnson City Country Club, and a former member of the Nativic Civitan Club of Johnson City, where he was a past president. He was instrumental in establishing the East River Christian Church, Elizabethton. Survivors include his wife, Georgia Arnett Williams; one brother and sister-in-law, Chester J. and Elda Williams Jr., Longview, Texas; two nephews, Norman Williams and wife Ann, Fayetteville, Ga., and Byron Williams and wife Linda, Longview; one niece, Donna Marie Williams, Tampa, Fla.; and several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. B, Johnson City, who died Thursday, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Tim Wallingford, minister, officiating. Graveside committal services will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park with full military honors being accorded by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard from Fort Sumter, S.C. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Mr. and Mrs. Sunday School Class of First Christian Church, members of the Nativic Civitan Club of Johnson City, members of the coffee club, and Joe Wilson, Phil Torbett, Bernie Gray Jr., Howard Bowers, Roger Strait, Don Crowe and J.T. Sheppard. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 950 W.
