CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Nellie Bell Wood, 10 Mar 2005 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Mrs. Nellie Bell Wood, 84, Central Drive, Johnson City, died Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Mrs. Wood was a native of Sevier, W.Va., and a daughter of the late Pat and Mahalia Richmond Bowden. Mrs. Wood had lived in Carter County since 1950. She was a very loving Mother and Faithful Christian. She was a member of the Christian Fellowship Church, Kingsport. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen "Jack" Wood, February 12, 1988; her parents, Pat Bowden and Mahalia Richmond Bowden; a son-in-law, Dallas Clayton Owens; three brothers, Teddy Bowden, Olza Delbert Bowden and James Preston Bowden; and a sister, Sarah Jane Kazee. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Kermit and JJ Wood, Jonesborough; two daughters, Sheila Wood, Elizabethton, and Patricia Owens, of the home; her son-in-law, Norman Simerly; three brothers, Alvin and Andy Bowden, of South Carolina, and Carlis Bowden, of Florida; and four sisters, Dollie Hatcher, Dublin, Va., Lorraine Shumate and Pauline Johnson, both of Christiansburg, Va., and Mae Ledford, Erwin. Ten grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Wood will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, March 14, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Elmer Lester and Dr. Bruce Montgomery officiating. Music will be provided by Eddie Shelton. Graveside services and interment will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral chapel at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, will be Jim Templin, John Vicars, John Mann Jr., J.B. Baker, Richard Owens and Norman Simerly. The family will receive friends at the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 14, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the residence at anytime. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral chapel at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday to go to the cemetery.
