Geneva M. Yelton 





    Geneva M. Yelton, 74, of Roan Mountain, died Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at 

Roan Highlands Nursing Center following an extended illness. 





    Ms. Yelton was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Asbury 

and Pearl McNabb Yelton. 





    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, a 

son, a daughter, a grandson, and special friend, Carl Brown. 





    Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Roger Palmer, a 

granddaughter and her husband, Marsha and John Barnett, two great-

grandchildren, Dustin and Megan Barnett, and a sister, Marzetta Ellison, all 

of Roan Mountain. Several nieces and nephews also survive. 





    The funeral service for Ms. Yelton will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, 

August 3, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, with 

Rev. Daniel Blevins officiating. Music will be under the direction of Dean 

Palmer and Veronica Hughes. Interment will follow the service in the Johnson-

Roanview Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be selected from 

family and friends. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 

1 to 2 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the home of 

her granddaughter, Marsha Barnett, Hampton Creek Road, at other times. The 

family would like to extend a special thank you to the Roan Highlands Nursing 

Center, Roan Mountain, and Pat Roark. Condolences may be sent to the family by
