CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Dr. Lester B. Young, 5 Jul 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Dr. Lester B. Young Dr. Lester B. Young, age 83, of Johnson City, died Saturday, July 5, 2003 at Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Elizabethton. Dr. Young was a native of Carter County and a son of the late George Thomas and Lottie Brumitt Young. He graduated from Happy Valley High School and attended East Tennessee State University. He was a graduate of Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine. In 1943, he began a veterinary practice in Johnson City and was owner of Young's Animal Clinic before his retirement in 1983. He was awarded the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association Distinguished Service Award. He served on the Tennessee State Veterinary Examining Board and was one of the organizers of the Appalachian Veterinary Association. Dr. Young was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Johnson City, and served as a deacon and an elder. He was a member and president of the Horticulture Interest Society. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bert and Raymond Young, and two sisters, Lola Remine Carter and Lela Lacy. Survivors include his wife, Geneva Gouge Young, of the home; two sons, Lester B. Young, Jr. and wife Adele, of Freehold, N.J., and George S. Young and his wife, Pam, of Elizabethton; a daughter, Marlene and husband, Dr. Andy Collins, of Kingsport; six grandchildren, Alan Young and spouse, Amanda, of Freehold, N.J.; Leslie Young, of Freehold, N.J.; Andy and Matthew Young, of Elizabethton, and Kimberly and Christopher Collins, of Kingsport. He is also survived by one brother, Roy Young. Arrangements are under the direction of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, 101 East F St., Elizabethton. YOUNG -- The funeral service for Dr. Lester B. Young, age 83, of Johnson City, who died Saturday, July 5, 2003, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2003 in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, Johnson City, with Rev. Don Muncie and Rev. Baron Eliason officiating. Interment will follow in the Patton Simmons Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Alan Young, Andy Young, Matthew Young, Christopher Collins, John Young, Ken Young, Victor Young, and Ted Lacy. Honorary pallbearers are Steve Fine, Paul Frye, Don Gouge, Tom Minnis, William Montgomery, Jerry Oler, Terry Williams, Dean Zeiler, and the Brotherhood Class and Elders of First Presbyterian Church, Johnson City. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mission Projects of First Presbyterian Church, 105 S. Boone St., Johnson City, TN 37601. The family will receive friends in the Woods Chapel of the First Presbyterian Church, Johnson City, from 1:30 until 3 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. Friends may call at the residence any time.
