CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Edna S. Young, 8 Oct 2004 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Edna S. Young, 87, Carter Street, Roan Mountain, died Friday, October 8, 2004, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Mrs. Young was a native of Avery County, N.C., and the daughter of Charles and Rose Turbyfield Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dana Harmon Young, and five sisters, Alma Smith, Carrie Bailiff, Flora Shomaker, Madge Peake and Clara Sue Smith. Mrs. Young was a member of Lower Shell Creek Christian Church and a retired school teacher from Cloudland Elementary School. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dana Dean and JoNell Young, Roan Mountain; a twin sister, Ila Potter, of the home, and another sister, Ruby Julian, Elk Park, N.C.; three grandchildren and their spouses, Karen and Kerry Buchanan, Sandra and Mark Guinn and Clark and Joy Young, all of Roan Mountain; six great-grandchildren, Sydnie and Elijah Buchanan, Andrea and Timothy Guinn and Hannah and Canaan Young; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Mary Lou Boone and Ruth Phillips, both of Roan Mountain. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, October 10, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Mr. Gerald Holly, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Gerald and Gloria Holly. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the residence, 146 Carter Street, Roan Mountain, at anytime. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday, October 11, at Johnson-Roanview Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Roger Morgan, Mark Guinn, Kerry Buchanan, Clark Young, Jack Shomaker, Myron Phillips, W.O. Hampton and Adrian Julian. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Morgan, members of Lower Shell Creek Christian Church and friends and neighbors of the community. Those planning to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Monday.
