Idella Young, 83, formerly of Johnson Avenue, Elizabethton, passed away
Sunday, June 19, 2005, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. 

Mrs. Young was born September 11, 1921 to the late Johnce and Lena Gardner in
Elizabethton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband of 52 years, John Young, three sons, Fred, Robert and Leon Young, and
by five brothers and four sisters. 

Mrs. Young was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she held
several offices. She retired from Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church as
cook because of declining health. Many will remember her as a person who loved
and cared for people and never met a stranger. She touched so many lives
through her kindness, even in the midst of her sickness. 

Survivors include a daughter, Johnnie Weaver, Elizabethton; a son, Sylvester
Young, Elizabethton; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a special
niece, Delores Richmond, Saginaw, Mich.; two sisters, Nannie Terry,
Elizabethton, and Ethel Bell Clark, Chattanooga; and a host of other relatives
and friends. 

The funeral service for Mrs. Young will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, June
23, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Ernest Widby and
Rev. Jeanette Clark officiating. Music will be provided by the St. Paul United
Methodist Church Choir and Kerroll Thompson. Interment will follow at Gardner
Cemetery, Arney Street, Elizabethton. The family will receive friends at the
funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, or at the residence, 814
Johnson Avenue, Elizabethton, at anytime. Active pallbearers will be selected
from members of the church. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Ivy Hall
