This has been transcribed from a photocopy of the original provided to me by the county clerk on August 11, 1998] ************************************************************************ February 7th 1853 I John Britt being sick in body but sound of mind, and desirous of settling my worldly affairs, I bequeath to my eldest daughter [Ellin] one dollar; I bequeath to my son John [forty acres of land ] joining Henry Johnsons land, the remainder of my land, namely, the home farm, the whaley farm, and the farm occupied by my son Lorenza Dow Britt my wife Polly is to have, at her death Worley Britt is to have the farm occupied by his father Lorenza Dow Britt. also my wife Polly is to have all the farming utensils, together with all the stock; the third part of the corn raised by my son Lorenza is to be appropriated to the payment of a note due to William Peoples. My wife Polly is to settle all of my debts. I bequeath to Tensy Britt one dollar; I bequeath to Nancy Britt one dollar; I bequeath to William Brumit one dollar; also to James Britt one dollar, also to George Britt one dollar, also to Lorenza D.
